A trough over the Tasman Sea moves eastwards, spreading a northeast flow over the country today. The trough is expected to cross New Zealand on Sunday, followed by a slim ridge, then a front should move up the South Island during Tuesday, followed by a cool southwest flow. On Wednesday, a low is forecast to approach from the Tasman Sea, spreading a northeast airstream over the country.
Saturday: Northeast 15 knots rising to 20 knots gusting 30 knots this afternoon. Slight sea becoming moderate this afternoon. Cloudy periods, with a few spots of light rain developing tonight. Sunday: Northeast 15 knots dying out in the morning. Southwest 15 knots developing in the afternoon and rising to 20 knots gusting 30 knots in the evening. Slight sea easing to smooth in the morning. Becoming slight again in the afternoon and rising to moderate in the evening. Cloudy with fair visibility in scattered rain.
Outlook until midnight Wednesday: Monday: Southwest 15 knots dying out, northeast 15 knots developing in the evening. Showers clearing. Tuesday: Northerly rising to 20 knots, changing southwest 25 knots and gusty towards evening. Showers with change. Wednesday: Southerly 15 knots dying out, northeast 15 knots developing. Becoming fine.
